THE VALUE OF ROOTS

Our company history is intertwined with that of Altomonte,

small village in the heart of Magna Graecia:

It is a family story, a land story, a tradition story rooted in the several monastic settlements

- Benedictine, Dominican and Franciscan - which have followed one another,

by the second half of the 11th century, in the area of Altomonte.

Altomonte owes its development to Roberto d'Altavilla, known as Guiscard, who erected a

Norman Tower and the adjacent Church of "Santa Maria dei Franchi", during the campaign for the conquest of Calabria, thus marking the beginning of the history of what is considered today

one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

The monks, who settled in the village at the behest of Princess Sichelgaita, Guiscard wife and

important member of the Schola Medica Salernitana, from herbal researchers and Knowledgeable, became experts in natural medicine, experimenting over the centuries

the production of elixirs for medicinal purposes.

Once the pharmacopoeia changed, the tradition has remained in the Art of Liquor.

At the end of the 19th century, in Altomonte was located the main wine and spirits industry

of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

It is within this historic company that Carlo Moliterno's adventure begins,

before becoming the founder of the homonymous company.

It is an ongoing process but with a its own unique identity,

It's a long journey with a very strong family tradition handed down from father to son.

These are the foundations of Essentia Mediterranea.
